Kaimai Hills Residence
Located on the Kaimai Range over looking Katikati, this ecologically friendly home makes the most of the sun and views.
The plan incorporated an existing garage structure utilising the plumbing and concrete pad. Large areas of tiled insulated concrete flooring trap the suns warmth in winter, radiating it back at night maintaining an even temperature. Summer sun is screened allowing the concrete slab to keep the house cool.
Large sheltering covered outdoor spaces provide an indoor, outdoor flow that protects from the strong winds and rain experienced on the Kaimai range.
The exterior cladding is made from local Katikati quarry stone forming a plinth with oiled Lawson Cyprus weather boards above.
Hot water solar panels and wetback supply the majority of hot water. Water is collected from the expanse of roof and is filtered and stored in large water tanks under the deck.
