Ports View Residence - Nelson
The clients requested a modern house that captured the views of the local port, sea and mountain ranges beyond. They wanted a sunny, warm home with separate space to accommodate their adult children when visiting.
The roof forms key off the contours of the hills mimicking the slope down to the harbour. In the plan the layout is anchored around a concrete block tower providing vertical access and light. The towers' roof deviates from the rest of the house providing a northern slope for solar hot water panels. Large eaves to the west provide shade from the hot afternoon sun without diminishing the stunning views.
“We engaged Gabrielle on the recommendation of another architect to build our new house where we had fantastic views and lots of sunshine – we had one meeting with Gabrielle and gave our thoughts on what we would like, which were quite vague. The next time we met with Gabrielle she had a concept plan which was just perfect and needed no modification. Throughout our project Gabrielle was a very friendly, easy person to approach, and always offered her down to earth and valued suggestions. She kept our project within our budget for which we cannot thank her enough. We now have a fabulous home which is everything we wanted.” - Homeowner
