Mt Maunganui College Administration Building
This project broke away from the institutional norm of the square creating a new circular hub for a busy secondary school. The iconic entry canopy sets it apart from other schools. High levels of noise from the adjacent railway and main road were alleviated with the use of precast concrete panels sheltering north outdoors spaces leading out from the staff room. Tight area codes and a limited budget were adhered to culminating to meet a strict deadline. The end result won two awards—the NZIA Branch award for Architecture and the Resene Colour award.
"Andrew listened to my staff and designed a magnificent building that has proved to be both functional and practical.” - Barry Bean, principal
